People tell me all the time that they saw this cute little dog or cat in the pet store and just had to bring it home.  When they tell me this, I just cringe.  I ask them, do you know where that dog has come from?  Do you know what you have just done?  Some will answer, "Yes, I just saved this poor dog."  Other say, "No and I don't care."  Well, hopefully after reading some of the sensitive information about puppy miller's practices and visiting some of the links, you will realize what you would be doing if you bought a puppy from a pet store, flea market, puppy broker or from a poor choice of a breeder.  Whether you purchase a puppy from me or some other breeder, please by all means,

The pet stores view dogs and cats as merchandise.  They have to get their products from a retail distributor.  That distributor is either a puppy broker, that buys entire litters from a breeder or from a puppymill, where large numbers of puppies are produced and sold each day.  Breeders at a puppymill do not care about health testing their adult dogs.  All they care about is the bottom line.... the profit and moving the product.

Some of their practices include:

• Breeding females each heat cycle, as early as 6 months old, and not allowing healing or replenishing from the previous litter.
• Breeding unhealthy dogs with known hereditary genetic flaws or breeding until they can't produce anymore or just die.
• Feed the dogs the cheapest foods, many times just the dust remnants from produced dog foods.
• Bowls are usually full of maggots, bacteria, dirty or even yet, empty, which causes behaviors like fighting for food.
• Dogs are kept in metal cages barely big enough for 1 dog, much less a litter of puppies.  Those cages are usually stacked on top of each other one after another.  Sometimes, so worn out, that they are sharp and hazardous, cutting legs and paws, sometimes causing amputations.
• Puppymillers even practice de-barking techniques.   That is when they ram the end of a hammer or a metal pipe down the dog's throat to damage the vocal cords so no one can hear them when they bark.  If they do bark, it sounds like a duck or goose quacking.  That helps them disguise their facility to the local neighbors. 
• Most dogs/ puppies are unhealthy and sick from being left in urine, feces, exposing them to infectious diseases.
• Long-haired breeds never see a comb or brush.  Ulcers will form under the solid mats of fur matted to the skin.
•  Most do not get proper vaccines or regular vet checks.
• Since the Puppymillers have so may dogs, they can not possibly give them personal love, attention, or any type of house training to the puppies they are producing.  With the many automatic feeders, they don't have to see dogs for months at a time.  This leads to the un-natural socialization habits.  Many call this "Crazy kennel syndrome."
• The validity of being a purebred dog is always in question.  To test the DNA would cost money; therefore, they register the dogs with dog registries that may or may not know or care about the actual ancestry of the dog.  Other times, they may even register a litter of puppies under another dog's AKC registration number that may have died or been sold off in an auction.  This just shows how dishonest a puppymiller can be to make money.
• Sometimes they have auctions or consignment auctions.  This, in it's self is horrible and cruel.  It's where 100-1000's of dogs are stacked in crates and bid on, for the purpose of continuing the breeding slavery cycle.
• Dogs are usually sold to continue the cruel cycle.  They are sold to other breeders who plan on doing the same thing.  Many times, the dogs are pregnant or even delivering during the auction.  Other reasons for auctions are because the bitches have become too old or non-productive to produce any puppies, ie, not bring in the money.  This is usually by the age of 5 years old.   If an auction is not an option, they are just shot, or dropped off somewhere like the dump.  When a dog is purchased at an auction, it is a catch 22 situation.  You rescue the dog from such horrible conditions, but at the same time, you give the puppymiller money to start the slavery cycle all over again with a new bitch. 
• In our county, it is illegal for the pet stores to sell dogs.  Someone with political power knew where the puppies were coming from and cared enough to stop it.  In 2009, Oprah tried to expose and educate the public to the cruel business.  Down below are some video clips that are not for the light-hearted.  The matter is very sensitive about puppymills.
